Gault&Millau's review

11/20
Gourmet Restaurant In 1949, Marcel and his friend Alcide Pugnat were the inventors of Cordon's very first ski lift: a teletrain. On these rounded hillsides facing Mont Blanc, the entire jet-set frequented the "gens de la montagne" for an evening, just 15 minutes from Megève and its golden peerages. To welcome them, there had to be a place: Chez Alcide! A wooden bistro with authentic charm, and clearly "in its element". We also fell in love with Marc Sibuet, a discreet hotelier and owner of the very chic Hôtel du Fer à Cheval. The short menu offers "the whole collection" of Savoyardises and other cheese-based dishes. But it's possible to escape the milky orgies, by following other equally interesting paths: a small, well-executed lentil salad from Le Puy, like this big, chubby sausage from the Devaud house in Magland, should whet your appetite. Afterwards, why not try a gourmet crozet gratin, or a dish that's as simple as it is delicious: a polenta galette topped with a fried egg. For dessert, Mont Blanc vu de Cordon, Morello cherries in brandy or porcini mushrooms in chocolate will add a few healthy calories here and there. Wise prices for the moment!
