The ultimate guide to Provence's best rosés for summer

The ultimate guide to Provence's best rosés for summer

Want to discover the best rosés from Provence this summer? From emblematic estates to exceptional cuvées and perfect pairings for your aperitifs and sunny meals, here's an unmissable selection of Provençal rosés that are causing a sensation this year.

Laetitia Gautheron

Provence is the world's benchmark for rosé. The vineyards devote almost 90% of their production to rosé. provence alone accounts for 40-45% of AOC rosé production in France, and nearly 5% of world production.

Provence rosés: hegemony and diversity

This dominance can be explained by several factors: a dry, sunny Mediterranean climate, a maritime influence, varied soils (schist, limestone, clay) and a long winegrowing tradition dating back to the Phocaeans who came to Massalia (ancient Marseille) over 2,600 years ago.

All nine Provençal appellations produce rosé. These rosés are often characterized by a very pale color, great freshness, low sweetness and fruity aromas that provide a gourmet sensation. The three top-producing appellations, Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence, export 44% of their production abroad. Provence has established a truly international style: clear, refined, dry and premium rosé.

But other AOCs, like Bandol or even the confidential Bellet and Palette, are more powerful and suitable for laying down.

Mas De Cadenet Sainte VictoireMas de Cadenet, Côtes de Provence Cru Saint Victoire 2025

Côtes de Provence's oldest complementary geographical denomination (DGC), Sainte-Victoire, has become a Cru with the 2025 vintage for rosé and red wines. Mas de Cadenet is one of 32 winegrowers with vines on this terroir. In addition to a rosé intended for laying down, the domaine offers a well-balanced, gourmet rosé. Aromas of peach, apricot and orange blossom are expressed in a full-bodied, smooth wine with a slightly mentholated finish that gives a feeling of tension. pair with rillette de tourteau as an aperitif.

Château Cavalier Marafiance 2025 75clChâteau Cavalier, Côtes de Provence Cuvée Marafiance 2025

Château Cavalier is a family estate owned by the Castel family, with over 130 hectares in a single block. Cuvée Marafiance, available in wine shops and restaurants, is a rosé that's a little different from the region's classic rosés, with a slightly darker color and a winey texture on the palate. With its bouquet of flowers, yellow fruit and spices, and its saline finish, it's the perfect accompaniment to salmon gravlax or white meat. Off-topic, but we warmly invite you to try their white Côtes de Provence too.

Domaine De La Begude 2025 RoseChâteau La Bégude, Bandol 2025

A seaside appellation, Bandol produces all three colors and is known for the presence of the mourvèdre grape. 75% of the wines produced are rosés, and this cuvée strongly expresses the mourvèdre grape, with aromas of blackberry, peony, garrigue and a hint of cocoa. The wine is full-bodied and fleshy, but never loses its elegance. A never-ending wine that leaves you hungry for more. enjoy it now with lamb chops and ratatouille, or cellar it for a few years for pleasant surprises.

Château D'ollières Prestige Coteaux VaroisChâteau d'Ollières, Coteaux Varois en Provence Prestige 2025

Located in the commune of the same name, Château d'Ollières unveils this prestige rosé as an ode to Provence rosé. The color is a flattering soft pale pink, and the nose is dominated by white fruit, peach and pear, with an exotic touch of redcurrant. Like its nose and color, the palate is delicate and greedy. A wine for pleasure, but with enormous length and personality. A friend you won't get bored with. The citrus zest finish will take us to orange-fried scallops.

Abbaye Sainte Marie De Pierredon Donna Rosa 2025Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Pierredon, IGP Alpilles Donna Rosa 2025

in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, in the heart of the Alpilles, Abbaye de Pierredon brings us a rosé with character. It has a salmon color and a nose of apple and quince, with a hint of kumquat and white pepper. On the palate, there's a lovely silky texture and a spicy finish. halfway between an aperitif and a meal, serve it with an assortment of fine charcuterie.

Toasc Rosé La TramontaneDomaine de Toasc, Bellet La Tramontane 2023

Bellet is a tiny appellation at the French eastern end of the Mediterranean, overlooking the city of Nice. It was interesting to introduce you to a rosé a few years old. The nose is reminiscent of a walk in the woods, with notes of pine and eucalyptus, and even a little blackcurrant bush, vegetal without greenness, with intensity. On the palate, the same intensity remains, powerful and muscular, but accompanied by notes of citrus, peach and mint. This fresh thread runs through the entire tasting experience. The floral finish takes us away. The perfect classic pairing: bouillabaisse.

Sainte Marquerite Fantastique Rosé 75cl 01 26Château Sainte-Marguerite Cru Classé, Côtes de Provence Fantastique 2025

This 450-hectare, organically farmed cru classé is available in three ranges: Symphonie, Fantastique and Marguerites en Provence. Cuvée Fantastique rosé 2025 is a pure definition of the Château's style. It expresses fruit notes such as kumquat, pear and vine peach, combined with a saline touch that takes us to the seaside. on the palate, the wine is fleshy and greedy, yet fresh, with a bouquet of white flowers and garrigue. The balance between substance and tension makes it a perfect match for both fish and white meats.

Rose Amista 2025 AChâteau de l'Aumérade Cru Classé, Côtes de Provence Amistà 2025

Nestled at the foot of the Massif des Maures, between relief and sea, this Cru Classé benefits from constant air circulation, bringing freshness and balance. This is immediately apparent, with salivating aromas of pink grapefruit, still-crisp apricot, a touch of smoke and a hint of wild strawberry. Minerality remains the backbone of this wine on the palate, with an elegance and a stony edge that could sometimes make us think more of Brittany than the South. Fresh and pleasant, with a floral raspberry finish. enjoy with spider crab.
