Just two blocks from Chartres Cathedral, Villa Gabriel has been breathing new life into a 19th-century bourgeois residence since 2024. The renovation blends original moldings with softly angled furniture, light wood and lots of off-white. The "Maison Blanche" effect: solid parquet flooring, tadelakt walls and floral motifs, subdued lighting. The rooms breathe. No decorative overload, just the right amount of texture to keep things from feeling cold. The real highlight is the interior garden: a patch of greenery invisible from the street, with deep armchairs and grasses that move in the wind. The staff know the best times to visit the illuminated cathedral, and can reserve a table in the neighborhood if the mood strikes. A guesthouse for a good night's sleep in the peace and quiet after looking up at the stained glass windows all day long.
