The first-born of the Mama Shelter tribe (founded in 2008 by the Trigano family), this totally atypical hotel has helped revitalize the Porte de Bagnolet district, now one of the "hot spots" of eastern Paris. Designer Philippe Starck (once again, very inspired) is largely to blame, having turned hotel codes on their head with tag ceilings, a lobby and lounges invaded by table soccer, ping-pong tables and DJ sets. All this is just a stone's throw from the restaurant, which serves generous, perfectly executed neobrasserie cuisine (the gratin of coquillettes with ham has become a cult favorite), served on a typically Parisian terrace above the rails of the Petite Ceinture, or on the rooftop. This "place for living with rooms too" (according to the Triganos' philosophy) is home to 170 refuges with equally eccentric decor - Darth Vader masks as lampshades and home cinema - which doesn't detract from real comfort, with 5-star bedding and perfectly appointed bathrooms. Last but not least, a mention for the pantagruelic and delicious breakfast...
