Gault&Millau's review 2026

Some houses seem to have a soul. This one, built in 1909 and boasting one of the most beautiful views of the Côte Fleurie from Mont Canisy, is one of them. Since the Belle Époque drew the cream of Parisian society—including the publishing world—to Normandy, Maison Douce Époque has chosen to draw on this literary heritage by naming its 14 rooms and suites after authors. Spread between the manor house—with its superb Anglo-Norman architecture—and the former stables, each has its own unique character: the “Hemingway,” very chic in its shades of beige and black, with sweeping views of the landscape; the “Agatha Christie,” featuring a private treatment room; and the “Anatole France,” boasting a double terrace. At the gourmet restaurant, Le Romanesque, squid tagliatelle, cuttlefish ink tempura, tobiko (flying fish roe), and lemon-infused celeriac are among Chef Kévin Legoy’s greatest successes. With rare elegance, the venue provides that much-sought-after “escape” experience.
