Gault&Millau's review 2025

In the heart of old La Rochelle, with its stone-arched lanes and historic market, this recently restored hotel features 58 rooms and suites in two buildings. Depending on your mood, you can choose to stay in the 17th-century building with its historic staircase and attic rooms with exposed beams and stonework, or in the 1950s building, which offers more modern, bright spaces with wide views over the city. The lounges and dining rooms have been inspired by the life of Albert Bodard, a diplomat from La Rochelle, with exotic furniture, ship models and nautical charts. Particularly noteworthy are the Bodard Bar, which opens onto a beautiful garden courtyard, the Arco restaurant with its South American flair, and the spa with its own swimming pool, a rare privilege in the city.
