As you enter Le Ricordeau, you catch a glimpse of a little piece of Sarthe history. This historic late 19th-century building, a former stagecoach stop, has played host to Steve McQueen, Gérard Depardieu, Jean Gabin, Georges Pompidou and Charles de Gaulle. No invasive modernity, but no old-fashioned charm either, in these 13 pleasant, bright rooms in the updated Empire style, overlooking the park. Quality furnishings, good standing. The hotel's renown is due to its chef, Émile Ricordeau. Today, chef Didier Chapeau continues this gastronomic tradition with passion. With its pretty garden and long-standing reputation, Ricordeau is a country retreat with timeless bourgeois charm.
