Gault&Millau's review 2025

A few kilometers from Bergerac, in the heart of the Périgord Pourpre region, this 17th-century chartreuse is now owned by Brigitte and Jean-Louis Viargues, who have extensively restored it to make it a warm and serene stopover. The 12 rooms and suites alone, housed in the former wine storehouse or the goose house, have a rustic-chic feel, with exposed beams, stone walls and deep armchairs. Most overlook the estate's 12 hectares of century-old boxwood, water gardens and orchards bursting with fruit. A veritable Garden of Eden, with paths for strolling and a lovely swimming pool for cooling off, all with a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and villages. The final highlight of this address, a member of Les Collectionneurs, is a gourmet table led by chef Indy Verbruggen.
