Gault&Millau's review 2025

This legendary palace will forever be associated with a mythical and flamboyant couple... The Fitzgeralds, Zelda and Francis Scott, who fled Prohibition-era America in the 1920s to take refuge in Paris and Cap d'Antibes, launching the bathing and partying craze that was the Riviera's golden age. The duo settled in the villa Saint-Louis, set against a pine forest on the water's edge, which was later bought and enlarged by a Russian émigré, Boma Estène. Renamed Belles Rives, the former villa has been discreetly modernized, jealously preserving its Roaring Twenties ambience. The Art Deco decor and furnishings are those of the original, as are the staircase and Scott's quotation of his happiness in Saint-Louis, engraved in stone. The 43 rooms are just as chic, as are the bar with its piano, the terrace overlooking the bay and the La Passagère restaurant, where Aurélien Véquaud, Arnaud Donckele's former assistant, officiates. A magical place, straight out of Scott's novel Tendre est la nuit.
