Proudly overlooking the slopes of the Croix-Rousse, this 16th-century bastion, once a sentinel of the city, has been reborn as an urban refuge designed by the Handwritten collection. The project has tamed the austerity of the ancient fortress's stone walls to infuse them with a contemporary softness, where clean lines dialogue with the site's military history. The 36 rooms and suites, with their generous volumes and renewed clarity, are spread over three floors, some revealing centuries-old roof timbers. The highlight of the show is the panoramic terrace named Rousse: a suspended promontory between the Rhône and Saône rivers where you can contemplate the horizon, from the rooftops of Vieux-Lyon to the peaks of the Alps on a clear day. This year, a spa dug into the historic site will complete the offer, with its indoor pool and Sothys treatment rituals.
